Michaela Kiersch makes first female ascent of first Font 8C, Dreamtime
- Thursday 14th November 2024
Michaela Kiersch tops her amazing summer boulder spree with the first female ascent of Dreamtime at Cresciano in Ticino (Switzerland), the first ever Font 8C.
Ever since Fred Nicole’s first ascent of Dreamtime back in 2000 the now uber classic testpiece at Cresciano has never been very far from the news. Initially downgraded to Font 8B+, Dreamtime was the up-graded back to its original Font 8C following a hold break.
Until now, no female climber has been able to crack the code; Michaela Kiersch however has been going through the hard blocs this summer like a hot knife through soft butter. Despite having a broken pinky finger, Kierch had a stellar trip to Rocklands where she climbed numerous hard blocs including Amandla (Font 8B+), three Font 8B’s including Quintessential, The Arch and Master Key and two Font 8A+’s Green Mamba and Fragile Steps. Kierch also flashed Light Saber and The Hatchling both of which are Font 8A’s as well as sending a collection of Font 8A’s including Barracuda, Dirty Epic, Nutsa, Out of Balance, Pendragon, Tea with Elmarie, Purple Nipple Clan.
Whilst Dreamtime is Kiersch’s first Font 8C, she’s a highly accomplished sport climber as well having redpointed both La Rambla Extension at Siurana in 2023 and Victima Perfecta in Margalef earlier this spring. Impressively, she’s the first female to climb F9a+ and Font 8C.
