Access to the summit of Mont Blanc has been restricted by French authorities.
Mont Blanc.
BBC News is reporting that the French authorities introduced the restriction on Saturday July 14th amidst concerns of overcrowding at the Gouter hut which they say could lead to “safety and public order” risks.
Although climbers will not be allowed on Mont Blanc’s popular Royal Route for eight days following the restrictions those which are already booked into the Gouter hut on the route will be allowed to continue.
BBC News also reports that last year 15 people died on the approach to the summit and that there has already been two deaths this year.
