It Takes Two GB Titans competition kick-starts the 2022 season
- Monday 21st February 2022
Molly Thompson-Smith and Alex Waterhouse won the recent 2022 It Takes Two GB Titans competition.
Founded and held at the Rock Over Climbing Gym in Manchester, the 2022 GB Titans competition saw four mixed couples going head-to-head on a limited number of blocs, one of which required the couples to climb using assistance from each other. Pairing up with a partner, the four teams set their own bloc in advance of the competition; unsurprisingly, the teams set blocs which favoured their own climbing style and heights.
Two additional blocs were set by Orrin Coley and Max Ayrton. For the actual competition itself the teams had a total of five minutes to climb each problem. The final problem involved the couples simultaneously climbing parallel line of holds; crucially having to use their partner’s arms, legs or bodies to assist each other to the top.
Molly Thompson-Smith and Alex Waterhouse won the competition. Frances Bensley climbed with Jim Pope, Gwyneth Uttley climbed with Billy Ridal and the final pairing was Rachel Carr and Hamish Mcarthur. Watch a film of the competition, made by Andrew Macfarlane, below.
